The Amazone-Group donates 10,000 Euro for ''Welthungerhilfe''

27th June 2014 saw the official handover of a donation of 10,000 Euros by the Amazone Group to the German charity "Welthungerhilfe". Representing Welthungerhilfe, Vera Schernus, business co-operations consultant, received a symbolic cheque for the donation which was handed over in Hasbergen-Gaste by Amazone director Christian Dreyer and personnel manager René Hüggelmeier.

The basis for this donation lay in the prize draw of a golden coloured ZA-M fertiliser spreader which was raffled off among the visitors to Amatechnica, Amazone’s in-house field day, in May 2014. The sale of the tickets has resulted, including a top-up contribution by the Amazone Group, in the now donated sum of 10,000 Euros.

Welthungerhilfe will use this donation for their "Sustainable Integrated Agriculture"  project in India. The target group of the project are 4,500 families from the rural tribal population and the lower castes in the Indian regions Jharkhand and West Bengal who live solely from agriculture. In a bid to reduce poverty and concerned about the poor nutritional standards, there is a need to increase agricultural production and improve the entry of the produce into the market. "To achieve this the local Welthungerhilfe partner holds training sessions explaining the better use of seed, the utilisation of modern cultivation methods and for local marketing", Vera Schernus from Welthungerhilfe explained at the handover of the cheque.

Within this project, which runs from mid-2014 until the end of 2017, the Amazone Group will act as an exclusive commercial partner offering further support for it over this period. "In addition to this initial donation here at home, Amazone will consolidate its international social activities in this project. Also, among the Amazone employees, there is a need to identify with this project", personnel manager René Hüggelmeier explained as the background to this relationship. So in order to find additional donations in the years to come, various kinds of participations and collection events will be held and, as far as possible, the expert competence of Amazone employees will also be integrated into the local training courses.
