The most important component of a seed drill is the metering system. If the seed is not reliably and exactly metered from the seed hopper, this will result in uneven lateral distribution, including over- and under-metering. Field emergence becomes uneven, plants that are sown too close together impede each other, whilst weeds have a better chance in thin crops.
