Big ideas start small

SCHMOTZER is a family-run, medium-sized company based in northern Bavaria. Originally founded as a bicycle dealership, Dr Hans Schmotzer soon developed the company into a renowned manufacturer of agricultural machinery. 

  • 2024: The colour scheme for hoeing technology is adapted to agricultural machinery and the Schmotzer brand becomes the AMAZONE brand
  • 2019AMAZONE takes over SCHMOTZER's hoeing product division and continues to market the brand.
  • 2005: SCHMOTZER turns 100
  • 2004: Ferdinand Wahl becomes sole Managing Director
  • 2001: First 12 metre wide 27 row hoe.
  • 1996: First fully automatic hoe guided by infrared rays
  • 1995: Production of the beet harvester finally discontinued.
  • 1986: Presentation of the "Vibro hoe blade"
  • 1980: Slump in the market for single-row beet harvesters. SCHMOTZER is forced to file for insolvency and then concentrated on the product ranges of precision seeding, plant protection and hoeing.
  • 1974: SCHMOTZER employs 540 people
  • 1972: First parallelogram-guided precision air seeder for beet and maize
  • 1965: Large-scale production - 2,200 sugar beet harvesters produced at the factory
  • 1962: Death of Dr Hans Schmotzer
  • 1953: Europe's first sieve harvester for sugar beet
  • 1951: First own self-propelled multi-purpose machine "Kombi"
  • 1933: First self-propelled motorised hoe
  • 1926: First own potato harvester
  • 1922: Invention of the hoe as a global innovation
  • 1915: Takeover of Agraria
  • 1905: Dr Hans Schmotzer founds a bicycle dealership.

SCHMOTZER can look back on over 100 years of inventiveness, pioneering inventions, setbacks and progress. AMAZONE's involvement with SCHMOTZER brought together two well-known companies that recognised each other's great potential for the future on account of their different specialisations.

We can only achieve our goals if we look in the same direction together. This document is intended to serve as a guide and point the way to a promising future. It describes how we want to perceive and present ourselves in the future - as a strong team.
