Master your mulch sowing and after the plough with the Cataya from AMAZONE

Many farms are aware of the challenge: everything is ready, catch crops have been ploughed in, liquid manure has been applied and the seedbed prepared. But then no rain - or far too much rain. Drought and wet conditions as a result of extreme weather are increasingly a decisive factor in the success or failure of crops.

AMAZONE combats this growing dependence on the weather with the Cataya harrow-mounted seed drill. In combination with the active soil tillage options of rotary harrow or rotary cultivator and roller system for strip-wise reconsolidation, the machine forms a robust, conventional drill combination for sowing after the plough as well as when mulch sowing. Reconsoliding the seedbed in strips enhances germination in dry and wet conditions by either connecting the seed to the ground water or by improving water infiltration including gaseous exchange. The choice of the RoTeC single disc coulter or the TwinTeC double disc coulter, means that sowing is possible in all weathers. This is the AMAZONE sowing insurance policy.

The Cataya is part of the high-quality range of AMAZONE seed drills - without compromise on precision and output. And that pays off: in the 2017 DLG test, Cataya was rated "very good" several times over.

The weather can do what it wants, but the Cataya from AMAZONE is ready for anything.

The Cataya concept

Soil tillage and sowing from a single source, in a single pass

1. Optional GreenDrill with baffle plates for sowing companion plants and catch crops above the covered seed furrow.
2. Divisible seed hopper with hopper capacities up to 1,730 litres with the mechanical Precis system for reliable seed metering.
3. Exact harrow, roller harrow, drag tine harrow or coulter harrow for thorough coverage of the seed furrows.
4. Various coulter systems for universal applications with working widths of up to 4 m:
- RoTeC single disc coulter
- TwinTeC special double disc coulter
- TwinTeC double disc coulter
- WS suffolk coulter
5. Tool-less coupling of the Cataya and KE/KG/KX soil tillage tools including various packer rollers for strip-wise reconsolidation and sowing in a single pass.

Reconsolidation in strips

Water is always available where it is needed
Whether using the Cataya Special or Super, the strip-wise reconsolidation with wedge ring roller and following harrow ensures reliable plant emergence under all conditions.

Reconsolidation in strips in the actual seeding zone allows the seed to be connected to the ground water in deeper layers without bringing the full capillary effect up to the soil surface. On the one hand, the seedling gets water, yet, on the other hand, the water does not rise so high that it evaporates on the surface. The soil does not dry out unnecessarily. This ensures good germination, even under dry conditions.

In wet conditions, on the other hand, the unconsolidated strips between the seed rows leave room for the water to infiltrate deeper. This enables an adequate gas exchange – it is important that oxygen can reach the young roots, even if they root deep down. The best conditions for good germination and successful juvenile development of the crops.
